Join astronomy experts at The Jasper Planetarium for a full evening exploring Jasper Dark Sky Preserve – the world’s largest accessible astronomy park – NIGHTLYstarting inside our world-exclusive domed theatre THENoutside with the largest telescope in the Rockies
 
First, join our astronomy experts in our 50-seat dome theatre for a LIVE virtual tour the world’s largest accessible dark sky preserve.  Inside the planetarium, your guide will share local aboriginal constellations, views of the Northern Lights from Jasper, and take you into space orbiting above the Rockies and on to the edge of the universe…all in about 40 minutes.
Then, come outside for an all-weather telescope experience** where you’ll:
  • tour of the largest, most powerful telescopes in the Rockies
  • see recent 4K Jasper sky imagery from our new video telescope
  • get tips on how to use your DSLR camera to photograph the Milky Way and auroras*
  • we may also have the chance to see a meteor or even the Northern Lights

If weather permits, you’ll also enjoy a live guided tour of objects in our Solar System and deep space as seen through our telescopes.

** NOTE: The Telescope Experience is a learning opportunity with weather permitting views of the sky. This experience occurs next to the Marmot Lodge parking lot, where we are able to tuWhile we do not need the sky to be completely clear to use our telescopes we CAN NOT guarantee clear skies. We DO NOT provide refunds if the skies are too cloudy, but will offer a “rain check” to re-book for another date in addition to proceeding with the other aspects of our telescope experience.
Please note also that evenings at or near the full moon will reduce visibility of faint deep space objects – this has nothing to do with the weather or darkness of our observing location
 
Our location next to the Marmot Lodge parking lot – with a minimum of light pollution on the edge of town – offers the ideal mix of convenience and great views of stars, planets, galaxies and more. This is an outdoor activity so dress warm!

Wednesdays, see the Milky Way through binoculars and take a laser-guided tour of the constellations (choose this OR our Telescope Experience) in the Rocky Mountain wilderness.

Far-Out-Fridays
Fridays, join our experienced astronomy guides for a spectacular telescope tour of some of the darkest parts of Jasper Dark Sky Preserve. (This excursion takes place Fridays each summer instead of our in-town Telescope Experience).
See the moons of the solar system, clouds of gas where new suns are being born, sparkling star clusters, and maybe even a shooting star or the Northern Lights during this evening excursion into the Jasper wilderness.

Skytram Star Sessions
Saturdays in September / Fridays & Saturdays in October, blast off for an astronomy adventure 1 km closer to space.  The Jasper Skytram and Jasper Planetarium offer a full evening of cosmic exploration under the darkest skies in the mountains, through the most powerful telescopes in the mountains, on top of a mountain. 
This incredible package includes: Skytram cable car flight to the top of Whistlers Mountain, telescope experience atop the mountain, and a 3-course dinner to start your evening off.

Jasper Dark Sky Festival
Every October, some of the brightest names in space exploration come to Jasper for a celebration of the night. This year’s festival features twin NASA astronauts Mark and Scott Kelly, a symphony under the stars at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and dozens and dozens of other activities, daily, Oct 12-21, 2018.
