Overview

Explore Jasper through local eyes. Your morning begins with a convenient pick-up from your Jasper accommodation as we head out into the valley with our expert SunDog guides. We'll track Jasper National Park's most iconic wildlife through their natural habitats, keeping watch for elk herds, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and spring bear emergence. Our guides bring the landscape to life using true regional expertise, moving past generic tour routes to show you how our rich alpine ecosystem regenerates.

In the evening, make your way to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge to step inside our air-supported planetarium dome. You'll join resident astronomy experts to explore the pristine Jasper Dark Sky Preserve. This hands-on cosmic experience features a live presentation inside the dome and interactive access to the largest video scope and telescopes in the Canadian Rockies.

This small-group experience is led entirely by local hosts, providing an authentic, educational journey that brings you closer to both nature and the cosmos.

FAQ

WHERE WILL WE GO?

Kindly note that the selected route is at the discretion of your driver/guide.  The Wildlife Discovery Tour is a driving tour with minimal walking.

WHAT DO I WEAR?

Outdoor clothing and walking shoes suggested for the Wildlife Discovery Tour.

WILL I SEE ANIMALS?

While the natural habitat around  Jasper is conducive to animal sightings, animal viewing is not guaranteed and depends largely on the season, the time of day, and the weather.

Will it be clear tonight?

Weather in the Jasper Rockies can change every few minutes.

Typically, in a given week, we are able to see something through our telescopes at some point in the evening roughly 6 out of 7 nights each week.

For more, check out our Astronomy Forecast page.

What happens if it’s cloudy?

We operate rain-or-shine, clear-or-cloudy, even when snowing. Because it is indoors, our planetarium is not affected by the weather.

While we do not need the sky to be completely clear to use our telescopes, we CAN NOT guarantee clear skies. We DO NOT provide refunds if skies are too cloudy, but we will offer a “rain check” to re-book for another date.

Our outdoor telescope experience is a learning opportunity with a variety of “weather-proof” activities AND telescope stargazing.
