Join SunDog Tours on our daily Winter Wildlife Discovery Tour. Our knowledgeable guides are trained to seek out all of the park’s most iconic creatures. Big or small, there are lots of animals to see in Jasper! Elk, deer, sheep, goats, coyotes, wolves, and moose are just a sample of Jasper’s wild mountain fauna. Learn all about the ways these animals contribute to the rich diversity of the National Park and how they survive the mountain winters. Our guides are well versed in the history, geology, and ecology of the area and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
As we travel through the Athabasca Valley, we will show you some of the park’s most beautiful scenery so have your camera ready to capture some amazing photos of the highlights of your visit. This tour is the perfect way to spend a morning and your best opportunity to see the wildlife of Jasper!
Maligne Valley & Pleckaitis Canyon Icewalk
Maligne Valley & Pleckaitis Icewalk is a scenic adventure that takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Jasper National Park. This tour covers three iconic spots The Maligne Valley Lookout, Pleckaitis Canyon and Medicine Lake each offering unique views and natural beauty. Throughout the tour, guests will enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Maligne Valley, passing through new burn, lush forests, and old burn. This tour offers a mix of easy walks, sightseeing, and photography opportunities, making it an excellent way to experience the natural wonders of Maligne Valley.

What kind of conditions should I expect?
Please be prepared for the mountain weather. The Weather in Jasper can change quickly and our winter tours run up to -25C (-17F). Wind chill can change the temperature dramatically and you will be outside for the majority of your tour, if you have any doubts please call our office for specialist advice.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Yes! the youngest child that can participate in the Icewalk is 6 years old.
Parents with infants in slings or backpacks unfortunately we are unable to accommodate due to the ability to hinge at the waist and move effectively through the canyon.
Can I bring my pet?
Due to the nature of the Pleckaitis Canyon it is unsafe for pets or service animals to participate in this tour.
What equipment does SunDog Provide?
We provide boots, ice cleats, and helmets as core equipment.
Poles and hand warmers are provided on request.
What should I wear?

To ensure that you enjoy the tour, please wear/bring:
· Snow pants are recommended for this tour and are mandatory if it is below -16C (3F).
· Otherwise, on warmer days, jeans / regular pants over long johns are okay.
· A warm sweater.
· A warm jacket.
· A hat and mitts.
· A neck warmer or scarf.
